Electromechanical Technician 1st Shift
Basic Purpose
Responsible for ensuring efficient repairs to machinery and coordinated efforts to reduce downtime in relation to production goals and ensure compliance with company policies. In addition, repair, test, adjust and install complex electronic equipment and components.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Comply with company and government regulations to ensure that employees are treated fairly and without bias or discrimination.
- Maintain department performance within standards for efficient utilization of human resources. Ensure employees are properly trained and understand the requirements within the department. Personally conduct training or pair the employee with an experienced employee for training. Follow-up with trainer to ensure that new employees are learning at a reasonable rate.
- Troubleshoot and repair or replace programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and their components.
- Write, troubleshoot, modify and diagnose all types of PLCs used in the plant. Must be able to follow equipment operation using ladder logic.
- Read and understand electronic and electrical schematic diagrams.
- Make adjustments as necessary to ensure optimum speed and quality of high-speed packaging machines.
- Perform setup, startup, and changeovers for high speed packaging equipment per production schedule.
- Conduct fault analyses of hardwire relay logic, motor control circuits, motor power circuits, and common utility/lighting circuits.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Overhaul machinery and equipment to include component replacements, alignments, and calibration to specifications.
- Be familiar with instrumentation including pneumatic, hydraulic, and digital equipment.
- Install, test and maintain electronic and electrical equipment.
- Utilize drawings and blueprints to facilitate maintenance and repairs.
- Perform installation of new control circuits, modification of existing instrument/electrical systems as requested, to include design, load and implementation of new control logic.
- Work in all departments in the processing plant environment, which includes cold, damp conditions.
- Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
- Install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
- Provide a means of notification/communication during non-working hours for emergencies. Respond to emergency call-ins within 30 minutes.
- Ensure shop and surrounding areas are kept clean by the removal of all debris in work areas, work benches and break rooms.
- Ensure a safe work environment by eliminating unsafe acts or conditions.
- Perform other comparable and related duties as assigned.
- Ensure and participate in compliance measures to meet GMP, HACCP, SQF and federal standards related to food safety and quality guidelines
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Post-secondary certification in electronics or related field plus seven years of experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools to precision instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices. Provide all hand tools needed to safely perform the job.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to organize the tasks to be performed.
- Ability to work with or near blood.
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English.
- Must be self motivated and be able to work with minimal supervision.
