No Antibiotics Administered - Plainville Farms’ turkeys are raised in a manner that avoids the administration of antibiotics. By growing turkeys without using antibiotics they thrive in a healthier environment. Consumers also benefit from this proactive approach as it is one more step towards antibiotic independence. In addition to raising turkeys without antibiotics, no hormones or growth stimulants are used at any time. (Federal law prohibits the use of artificial growth hormones in poultry.)
Heart Lite™ - Plainville Farms turkey is so lean that many products have earned the Heart Lite™ distinction. This exclusive trademark signifies Plainville Farms turkey has 30% fewer calories and 70% less fat per serving than the standard listed for turkey by the USDA. Whereas the reference product contains 185 calories and 10 grams of fat, Plainville Farms turkey has only 130 calories and 3 grams of fat. While many factors affect heart disease, diets low in fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. Grown with Renewable Wind Energy - At our farms in Plainville, we use wind generated electricity from Community Energy, Inc. to grow our turkeys. By switching from fossil fuel to wind generation, we reduce CO2, SO2, and Nitrous Oxide emissions and decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
Veggie Grown™ (No Animal By-Products Fed) - Specially formulated feed developed at Plainville Farms’ mills contains absolutely no animal by-products. No meat, bone meal, or animal fats are present in the turkeys’ diets. Instead, our turkeys are fed a wholesome vegetarian diet consisting of corn, soybean meal, vitamins, minerals, proteins, and oils.
Animal Friendly™ - Plainville Farms provides its turkeys with a healthy, reduced stress environment. The turkeys are raised in open-sided, naturally ventilated buildings where they are provided comfortable temperatures, fresh air, and plenty of feed and water at all times. The turkeys are free to roam in 30% more space than generally provided in the industry. An exclusive Animal Friendly trademark, endorsed by the USDA, recognizes Plainville Farms’ efforts in the humane treatment of animals. Through the elimination of antibiotics and hormones, the introduction of a vegetarian diet, and the Animal Friendly husbandry practices, Plainville Farms produces turkey that is tender, moist, and among the healthiest foods available.
